Port executives at Southampton have defended its record in handling containers, after hauliers yesterday said they would be looking for price increases to reflect the higher costs of retrieving and delivering containers.

January 11, 2018 at 7:21 amAnd the hauliers issues were mainly associated with volume/demand bunching and not so much about truck turn-times. The un-even spread of demand will cause costs to rise, and the hauliers will need to find ways to either mitigate this (not so easy by themselves) or increase costs. The parties with the best opportunity to try and spead the demand are the Lines, Shippers and the Port/Terminal itself. That part they have certainly not addressed in their feedback here.
Credit where credit is due however, to turn a truck with 1 in/1 out containers in 33 minutes is world-class for sure. So fully agree that SCT is doing a great job there.
