Since its launch in 2012, The Loadstar has become the prime global news outlet for the freight and logistics industry.
During that time, we have seen readership soar, owing to our independent analysis, quality commentary, ability to break news – and significant investment in journalists around the world.
And we have managed to provide that all to our readers free of charge.
Our business model, based on advertising, has supported that. But now, everyone is navigating tumultuous times, all while tech giants monopolise advertising spend. We need to protect our future from this volatility, and ensure we can continue to invest and launch new products to future-proof independent journalism in the freight sector.
To help us do so, and keep our independent journalism free from corporate interests, we will be asking readers for a small fee to help us ensure that our top-quality editorial remains so.
From May, we will be rolling out our new subscription product throughout the world. There will continue to be a section of The Loadstar that is free to read, and everyone can also access our award-winning podcasts. But non-subscribers will be unable to access more than three articles a month in our metered subscription plan.
At just £10 a month, The Loadstar will cost you barely more than a pint of beer or two in a London pub. Or, cheaper still, we have an introductory offer of £70 a year until the end of July.
If you are already one of our loyal Loadstar Premium subscribers – at a cost of just £20 monthly, or £200 annually – you will receive access to all The Loadstar products.
We don’t think it’s much to ask, to ensure that The Loadstar remains as a relevant, independent, and high-quality publication – and you will be helping us to continue to make sense of the supply chain. And readers can enjoy the sensation of knowing that they’re supporting independent journalism in our industry.
We are also offering an information-sharing Partner Programme for select individuals, please contact us for more information.
In the meantime: Cheers! And if you are ever in town, we will be happy to buy you a pint in return…

April 29, 2025 at 4:21 pmCurious… Why would you put this item behind the ‘login to continue reading’ function???
As you are looking for new subscribers/supporters, just a wild guess here, but you shouldn’t try and hide it from them…
And as a subscriber who may, at some point in the far distant future, wish to take you up on the offer of a pint if in town… What town would that be? London- The Greatest city on Earth, or Samarkand, that used to be???
Keep up the good work – real journalists are always more fun than an algorithm.

April 29, 2025 at 4:24 pmThanks for your comment. The whole website is behind the registration page, and has been for some time, but in the future some articles will be behind the ‘wall’ and others won’t. We’d be delighted if you take us up on our offer of a pint: I should have been clearer. We jump between London and Ipswich. Look forward to meeting you!

April 29, 2025 at 4:41 pmHI Alex, appreciate your comment and the offer of a pint – even at my advanced age… Ipswich may be more convenient than London, as i only go into ‘The City’ occasionally for meetings these days…

May 02, 2025 at 3:41 pmI think your sub price is fair in today’s mad media market. But we expect the quality and impartial news to remain as excellent as before. I will claim that pint!!

May 08, 2025 at 3:20 pmTen pounds a month is too much for an old shipping hand. Please let us have a pensioners rate!
Alex Lennane
May 08, 2025 at 3:22 pmIt’s only £5.80 a month in our introductory offer. Or you can join our Partner Programme, do get in touch if you’d like to.

May 13, 2025 at 10:53 amDear Alex, that is a very kind way of asking for more support. I really appreciate the independence all your journalists have. Fully supported from my side.
