April 29, 2025 at 4:21 pmCurious… Why would you put this item behind the ‘login to continue reading’ function???
As you are looking for new subscribers/supporters, just a wild guess here, but you shouldn’t try and hide it from them…
And as a subscriber who may, at some point in the far distant future, wish to take you up on the offer of a pint if in town… What town would that be? London- The Greatest city on Earth, or Samarkand, that used to be???
Keep up the good work – real journalists are always more fun than an algorithm.

April 29, 2025 at 4:24 pmThanks for your comment. The whole website is behind the registration page, and has been for some time, but in the future some articles will be behind the ‘wall’ and others won’t. We’d be delighted if you take us up on our offer of a pint: I should have been clearer. We jump between London and Ipswich. Look forward to meeting you!

April 29, 2025 at 4:41 pmHI Alex, appreciate your comment and the offer of a pint – even at my advanced age… Ipswich may be more convenient than London, as i only go into ‘The City’ occasionally for meetings these days…
