My mail ? the old-fashioned kind: bank statements and so on ? is hand-delivered by a friendly Portuguese lady who works for a legacy delivery company (Royal Mail) and who also knows my daughter’s name. Sometimes she stops for a chat.

My Amazon parcels are hurled over the six-foot side gate to our house by a guy who never even checks that I’m in, and I’m not sure even stops his vehicle as he passes. I never see this guy. Guess ...
