E-commerce is going rural. The rise of cheap smartphones in India is set to give the sector yet another boost, with the number of internet-connected rural consumers set to double to 315m by 2020. Alibaba in China already has outposts in 16,000 villages – the growth in India will give the likes of Amazon and FlipKart a wave of new customers.
