Last year’s air bag recalls in the US, by Japanese manufacturers, netted the air cargo industry an additional 39,000 tonnes of freight. While this year does not have the same port congestion which contributed to air freight last year, there has been a repeat of the air bag recalls. Two announced on Friday cover five million air bag inflators in cars made by Ford, Volkswagen, Honda, Daimler, Audi, Mazda, Saab and BMW. Repairs will be prioritised in areas with high humidity levels, such as the states around the Gulf of Mexico and Puerto Rico.
