Drivers strike at Los Angeles, Long Beach ports

Sounds worse than it is, so far, as some 500 truck drivers at a handful of trucking companies walked off the job this week in protest at their continued classification as independent contractors, rather than employees, which is what Teamsters union officials are aiming for. With 16,000 truckers working in the US’s largest port complex, the hope is that continuing cargo clean-up operations won’t be affected.
