Some of the world’s most technologically advanced container handling equipment has been installed at the new OOCL terminal under development at the US west coast port of Long Beach.
A useful primer for the technology now being deployed… but the implication, unfortunately overlooked in this article, is what impact this is going to have on the negotiations under way between employer body the Pacific Maritime Association and the west coast dockers’ union, the ILWU, which is a particularly fierce opponent of port automation.
