Via Lloyd’s Loading List comes the story behind the creation of the new alliance between Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM. It is a fascinating tale of how the world’s largest lines have been in negotiations since last year; their plans to establish an operations centre in London (one would assume in Maersk House, formerly known as Beagle House when it served as P&O Nedlloyd’s HQ, but now is mostly sub-let to Sky Television), manned by 200 employees who will be split from the sales and marketing teams of the respective carriers by a “firewall”. Underpinning it all is the reality that no line in today’s environment is able to go it alone.
