The Global Shippers Forum is calling for a new global campaign to help stamp out “unsubstantiated shipping surcharges” and other local charges. The association wants regulatory bodies worldwide to introduce new regulations and laws to stop what it calls “anti-competitive practices”. Sri Lanka has recently introduced laws preventing additional charges – and seen a 31% fall in logistics costs in one case. GSF claims that charges amount to a trade barrier and are particularly acute in Africa, Asia and South America.
