EU unprepared for road freight growth

“In fact, we are struggling just to manage present levels of demand in a sustainable and resource-efficient way,” EC transport commissioner Siim Kallas told an IRU-EU road transport conference in Vilnius recently. With this in mind, the EC is revisiting regulations covering the maximum weights and dimensions of road freight units with the intention of using them as a catalyst to encourage more innovation in truck design.
