In Europe and elsewhere, there is a discernible impulse to go for larger trucks. The latest initiative comes from Canada, where Walmart has unveiled its new supercube design and launched a year-long pilot project. Supporters claim that road congestion and vehicle emissions will decrease as more freight can be carried in single units, while those that oppose them (including Ontario’s trucking union, according to this report) warn that safety will be compromised.
