Canada exported $4.14bn in fish and seafood products to 118 countries in 2012, an increase of $41m over 2011, according to The Wall Street Journal. Exports to the US accounted for some 62% of the total, representing a value of $2.6bn, but China and the European Union were also significant, importing more than $439m and $343m-worth of Canadian fish and seafood respectively in 2012. The Canadian government is reported to be lobbying for a new Canada-EU trade agreement to eliminate fish and seafood import tariffs, which currently stand at 11-25%.
