Located on the north-western tip of Africa, directly opposite Gibraltar, where the Med and the Atlantic meet, the Moroccan port of Tangiers is finally fulfilling its potential as the result of several billions of euros investment in its container facilities and neighbouring free trade zone begin to be realised. Construction of the second phase of the box port could push throughput up to 6m teu a year, making it by the far the largest in the region, while late last year Renault opened a new €2bn factory in the free trade zone which is said to be the largest car plant in Africa.
