Leaving aside the less-headliney fact that there are probably a host of other developing countries that would love to welcome the sort of foreign direct investment (FDI) levels that Vietnam has seen over the past couple of years, there’s little doubt that Vietnam has been the major beneficiary of the recent decline in Chinese manufacturing. While there seems to be increasing resentment of global trade in the developed world – reflected in much of the political discourse in the US and Europe – some 95% of Vietnamese recently surveyed were in favour of as much of it as possible.
