The question was posed by Ti’s Cathy Roberson, who pointed out that the streets on Black Friday, traditionally a bricks-and-mortar day of spending, were less busy than Thanksgiving itself, and 7% down on last year. But online spending was 9.5% up on Black Friday of last year and 14.3% higher on Thanksgiving. Both UPS and FedEx were open for pick up and delivery on Friday, while USPS has begun delivering seven days a week through the holiday season. But, as the postal service noted “there is only so much capacity in the network”.
