Nothing has caused as much debate in liner shipping circles in recent months as the International Maritime Organization’s amendments to SOLAS regulations, which are due to come into force on 1 July and will see shippers mandated to provide shipping lines with the verified gross mass of their containers before they can be loaded onto a vessel.

The 162-or-so countries that are signatories to IMO conventions are duty-bound to enact the legislation, and in this Loadstar podcast, we discuss the work being undertaken in the UK with shippers, forwarders and ports, all preparing for the rapidly approaching deadline – starting with DP World Southampton’s commercial director, Aart Hille Riis Lambers, explaining how its planned container weighing service will work.

The Loadstar editorial team was then joined in a round-table discussion by BIFA policy and compliance manager Robert Windsor and risk management director at the TT Club Peregrine Storrs-Fox.
