Gavin-jon Deeks has returned to the charter broker business, taking on the role of senior vice president cargo sales Americas for Chapman Freeborn.
Already a 16-year veteran of the broker, he left in 2018 to join Maersk as senior director business development, a role he held for a year before moving on to Air Partner. Mr Deeks’ most recent role was as head of business development and strategic capacity at MSC Air Cargo.
Chairman Russi Batliwala said: “Great news. A big welcome back. Further strengthening the CF group’s US network, with many years’ experience and knowledge of the air charter industry.”
Mr Deeks will have his work cut out at Chapman Freeborn, which told The Loadstar last year that it expected a high performance from its managers, one of the reasons several have left, according to Mr Batliwala.
“Ten years ago we used to have a lot of people that were not necessarily pulling their weight, in terms of what they were supposed to bring into the business…
“Things have changed…you start now to look at departments and costs more closely. And then you suddenly see a big cost and want to know to what it’s contributing.”
