The Straits Times reports from the Chinese hi-tech manufacturing hub of Chongqing on the visit of Singapore deputy prime minister Teo Chee Hean, inspecting the latest developments of the Singapore-Chongqing multimodal corridor the two cities are constructing. It is an intriguing development – the joint-venture has brought together Chinese authorities, port operator PSA and Singapore-based shipping line PIL to promote container flows from the Chinese hinterland to Singapore’s vast deepsea port facilities and is a strategic response from the port city to the threat posed by China-Europe rail services.
