Interesting blog by Agility CEO Tarek Sultan Al Essa, currently at Davos, on SMEs. He points out that the WTO admits that – despite accounting for 95% of all companies – SMEs are largely ignored, little studied and have been consistently ignored by regulators drawing up international trade rules. As a result, cross-border trade is harder, and thus more expensive, for SMEs than it is for larger companies. But, as this blog notes, technology is the leveller that will enable smaller companies to access global trade, which in turn will help them to thrive.
