Alitalia is to end its deal with Air France-KLM, by which the Franco-Dutch carrier sells the Italian belly capacity. Alitalia, now 49% owned by Etihad, has said the relationship and joint venture with its former shareholder is inequitable, as the deal was negotiated when the carrier “was in a very different position”. CEO Sivano Cassano indicated that AF-KLM has not been very receptive to a renegotiation of the deal, which is why the carrier has stated that it will not renew the agreement in its current format when the contract ends in 2017.
