A frankly rather disturbing report from the International Transport Forum has concluded that emissions of the CO2, NOx, SOx and particulate matter is likely to substantially increase over the next few decades, posing huge environmental, health and economic threats to societies across the world. Per tonne per kilometres, shipping may well be one of the most environmentally friendly forms of transport, but the fact is that its overall emissions are significant and more regulation is probably needed to curtail them.
