This article raises a number of informative points, but fails to address the fundamental issue as to why do Oil and Gas companies treat extensions of their supply chain as a vendor and not a partner. Surely by allowing long-term relationships to develop would enable the proactive forward thinking of both Company and Forwarder to be a proactive one and thus lessen the reactive flash to bang scenario as outlined in the article.

My hunch, having listened to a couple of speakers on this, is that there is a strong focus on emergency logistics in the upstream sector of O&G – whoever can do the job in time wins the deal. In addition, there seems to be a complex chain of companies involved in exploration and drilling, and it sounds as if that is the focus of partnerships, rather than logistics. But I’ll see if I can get a proper answer from Bas Vorstenbosch for you.

Logistics and shipping allows for flexibility. But we need more utmost good faith between companies and shippers. Without full disclosure a forwarder is not full empowered to reveal that they are experts.
