Pakistan International Airlines has won ACC3 status, allowing it to carry cargo into the EU. The first airline to have achieved validation from a ‘high risk’ country, it began the process in April and has bought screening equipment for three airports in Pakistan. The country has been forced to boost security standards following the Karachi Airport attack earlier this year, in which 38 people died, and an attack on a PIA flight at Peshawar Airport just two weeks later. PIA does not appear to operate freighters.
