The reason I have introduced this into today’s debate is that the Gartner Hype Cycle is very relevant when we read about initiatives like hydrogen powered aircraft (“The ZEROe demonstrator has arrived”) and the like.
I have previously confirmed my scepticism because hydrogen is:
– Expensive.
– Difficult to store
– Highly flammable
Moreover, it:
– Needs fossils fuels to produce it
– Is inefficient due to the energy vector transition
And then, leak detection requires advanced sensors. Meanwhile, transportation is tricky because it is very volatile.
