Air freight’s importance to the Australian economy is set to rise in the coming years. According to reports, some A$119bn (US$84.4bn) will be flown in and out of the country in bellyholds alone this year. And one think-tank is calling on the government to set up a dedicated body aimed at measuring and analysing the sector. Air Cargo News reports that, while air freight accounts for just 1% of Australian trade volumes, it carries more than 20% in terms of value.
