A fantastic, long read from Wired magazine about two firms competing to realise electric car magnate Elon Musk’s vision of the hyper loop. It’s a maglev (magnetic levitation) train concept that could radically cut overland transport times and revolutionise the intermodal industry. But there is trouble on the tracks. Two rivals are undertaking the project, which still attracts plenty of sceptics – one UK engineering professor describes it as “not even worth talking about”, given the huge cost implications. One competitor remains shrouded in mystery and the other is beset by a $250m lawsuit launched by former executives.
