Forecasts suggest the global drone logistics and delivery market could reach $29bn within eight years. Seeking to capitalise on this, UPS has announced plans to launch a commercial drone subsidiary. Venture Beat reports that the US integrator has applied to the US Federal Aviation Administration for Part 135 Certification, which could be approved as soon as this year. The proposed subsidiary has been registered as Flight Forward and Part 135 approval is required as FF would legally be designated as a certified air carrier as opposed to the FAA Part 107 drone rules under which UPS presently runs its drones operations.
