Amazon’s annual report, filed on Friday, refers to the company as a “transportation service provider” and identifies companies that provide fulfilment and logistics services as competitors. The e-tailer has been silent on its much-reported moves into logistics, but the admission shows that the company is building a shipping business. But in a call on its fourth-quarter results last week, the CFO said it wasn’t planning to replace partners, simply to “supplement” them.
