Online retail appears to be winning out, perhaps sooner that was expected. Sears, the Illinois-based retailer, is to close its flagship Chicago store in April, admitting it has lost “millions of dollars”. The news follows an announcement by clothing store JC Penney that is it to close 33 of its 1,100 shops this year. Macy’s, meanwhile, is closing five stores – but opening eight.
