More signs of modal shift – this time from the world’s second largest express company, which yesterday released third quarter results that showed profit down 31% as shippers out of Asia switched from air to “slower, cheaper modes of transport”. In response, the company has said it will cut air freight capacity out of Asia; retire older planes and continue with its employee reduction buy-out that runs through to 2016.
