Very interesting article in Forbes on a consumer survey on perceptions of corporate supply chains and how this affects purchasing decisions. Basically, they increasingly want to know more, and are becoming more willing to vote with their feet should they not be furnished with better corporate social responsibility. “Unless businesses can respond to consumer demand for supply chain visibility, they can resign themselves to a future of firefighting press disasters sourced form their own supply chain.” Seriously, who, following the horsemeat scandal, really trusted the supply chains of certain branded ready-made meals; or big name retailers not to subcontract their clothing manufacturing to cut-price Bangladeshi producers who fail to put in even the basic safety standards for workers?
