Freight forwarding company, Allport Cargo Services has today announced the appointment of Charles McGurin as Joint Managing Director, serving alongside Danny Clayton. McGurin will take up the post in December.
His appointment coincides with the retirement of current Joint Managing Director Jerry Gray who in January 2015, following 40-years of service, will take up a Non-Executive Director position with the company.
As part of the restructure, in September 2015 Seafreight Divisional Managing Director, Kevin Witmore will also retire from his day-to-day duties and will serve Allport as Group Consultant – with a particular focus on the company’s emerging Contract Logistics business. Witmore has spent 38 years at the company.
The appointment of Charles McGurin sees him return to the company after thirteen years, having previously spent several years in Allport’s Supply Chain Management team before leaving to work for APL Logistics. He rejoins from DHL Global Forwarding where he spent 10 years in numerous roles, most recently as Vice President, Business Development for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Heath Zarin, Chairman of Allport Cargo Services’ UK Group, said of the restructure: “As a result of Allport’s enduring commitment to its people, we have benefited from the loyalty and dedication of a wide group of very talented individuals over the course of nearly their entire careers. Both Jerry and Kevin epitomise the quality and ethics for which we are renowned and each has played a significant role in the sustained growth our business has enjoyed. We will now draw on their experience as they help guide the company from the highest levels.
“To support the transition of the Joint Managing Director role, Jerry will also work closely with Charles McGurin, who I am delighted to welcome back to the Allport family. His previous time with us saw him form a formidable partnership with Danny Clayton as they established the foundations of our Supply Chain Management division and enabled us to become a market leader within the retail sector.
“Allport Cargo Services UK has a long history of being a leading employer in the freight forwarding industry and this latest restructure will ensure the business is well positioned for future growth and development.”
