In this blog post, senior ports and terminals director at Drewry Maritime Research Neil Davidson asks whether CMA CGM’s decision to sign an MoU between its CMA Terminals Holding and Cosco Shipping Ports is evidence of increasing terminal alliances based around shipping alliances. Mr Davidson says it makes sense for two carriers that will be in the same alliance from 2017’s second quarter to seek to work to together as far terminal interests are concerned.
“Will any other carriers which share membership of the same alliance seek to formalise the relationship between their associated terminal businesses? I wonder.”
