When Trump was elected in November, I was one among the nervous millions concerned with the direction of potential US approach. But then, I concluded that sense and pragmatism will prevail with Secretaries and top officials ensuring that rhetorics are not translated into action in its entirety. Trump’s inaugural address, if any, belies this fervent hope and only strengthens that his rhetorics are likely to become actions. On some of his selections to help him run the show, I don’t attach too much of importance to lack of exposure to Government as is argued by some. I would focus on their attitude and approach – in broad terms, are they hawkish (Trumpish) or are they moderate? Going by the testimonial hearing in the Congress and some of the utterances, there are some hopes since quite a few statements were made directly contradicting Trump rhetorics. When intestine is touched in the human body, it goes into a shock and takes time to resume its normal function. That is the way the trade and the world is now. I hope that in one year from now, we have better reason to cheer about.
