The story so far on Friday’s wildcat strike by dockers in the port of New York and New Jersey, is from the New York Times. While the International Longshoreman Association (ILA) insisted that the action was in protest at New York’s Waterfront Commission’s continuing oversight on the hiring of stevedores in the port, sources indicate that it may be over an ongoing commission investigation into senior ILA figures. Set up in the 1950s to combat corruption at the port, the commission is said to be investigating senior ILA figures, in cooperation with the FBI and the US state attorney.
