Yesterday marked the beginning of negotiations between the ILWU and Pacific Maritime Association for US west coast ports. The six-year contract between the pair expires on July 1, and shippers have already been seeking alternative routes and rushing through cargo in June in case of disruption to the ports if an agreement isn’t reached. The talks are to be conducted daily in San Francisco until a new contract is agreed.
