A Jamie Oliver programme in the US caused a stir when he showed how pink slime (full name: lean, finely textured beef) is produced, which turned into a storm on Twitter, Facebook and other forms of social media, leading to the near bankruptcy and supply chain crash of the producer. Lesson? Social media can pose as great a risk as natural disasters, and supply chain execs need to have risk management strategies in place.
