Production for sports shoe maker Yue Yuen and global exporter Li & Fung has been suspended in Vietnam following anti-China protests. Taiwanese companies have also been targeted in what appears to be an increasingly bitter dispute over China’s decision to drill for oil in a part of the South China Sea claimed by Vietnam. China plans to leave the oil rig in place until August – which could lead to a fall in exports from some Vietnam-based businesses.
