Here is a supply chain story that made it into the pages of national newspapers – mainly due to the sheer volume of business, particularly by Amazon, in the run-up to Christmas: UPS missed some deliveries. That was despite hiring 85,000 additional workers – 30,000 more than it had originally planned for. Nonetheless, revenue rose 2.8% although fell by 5.8% in its freight and supply chain division.
