The retailer is offering bonuses of up to $1,500 for driver referrals, and is hoping to shorten the process for new hires in an initiative for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Data shows that the US is short of nearly 300,000 drivers, helping push up costs – and harming Walmart’s profit margins. Although Walmart typically retains its drivers, offering reasonable wages and holidays, its turnover has risen as competition in the market has become more fierce.
