The terrible industrial accident in Bangladesh, which led to the deaths of more than 1,120 garment workers, has caused retailers to re-examine their supply chains. While some have pledged to help the country create safe standards for workers, other buyers, more shamefully, are considering sourcing their garments elsewhere – which hardly helps the people of Bangladesh. However, few other countries have either the labour force or the infrastructure to take on large orders – and those that are, are fully booked.
