The continued political unrest in Hong Kong coupled with the effect of the China-US trade war is proving a double-whammy for the special administrative region, which is on the cusp of entering recession.
The port of Hong Kong handled 19.6m teu in 2018 and was the seventh-largest container port in the world, but currently it is struggling, which could see it slide further down the global port rankings.
It is hoped that this new barge efficiency initiative from the Hong Kong Seaport Alliance will help to improve the competitiveness of Hong Kong in the eyes of its shipping line customers.
