In The Loadstar’s latest podcast, two stalwarts of the air cargo industry come together to chat freight and friendship. We caught up with Des Vertannes, former head of IATA Cargo, and Glyn Hughes, current chief and formerly Robin to Des’s Batman.
In a wide-ranging conversation, they justify IATA’s controversial money-making side, as well as explaining how the airline association manages balance in the supply chain, despite its louder voice and heavier clout than other stakeholders. And the popular pair explain why air cargo is one of the friendliest industries – despite the best efforts of the US Department of Justice. And, of course, a conversation with Mr Hughes would not be complete without a pun run…

They brought out some home truths – whether it is Des speaking about IT charges or Glyn about the responsibility to make e-freight a reality. The next generation would have a lot to thank the current one but more to do given the significant changes globe is facing – not just the industry, whether it be security, financial or political.
