The fishing industry needs to introduce a system of visibility to track each fish from the moment it’s caught until it reaches the market. According to new research, ‘pirate’ fishing nets between $1bn and $2bn a year – or between 15% and 26% of the total value of wild-caught imports into the US. A bill to ensure traceability is pending in Congress.
