The intermodal sector is one area of container transportation which is purring along very nicely – volumes in the US have doubled over the past decade, and they are likely to continue to grow ahead of ocean volumes as shipper stake advantage of the economies of scale offered on long-distance routes, while a growing shortage of truck drivers in the country is also pushing cargo owners to move more business onto rail.
