Detroit Free Press reports:

FedEx delivery delays in southeastern Michigan are frustrating customers who are now saying that the company is rerouting packages through the post office.

There is even a Facebook group — “Storm Fed Ex Oak Park’s Phones (OPPD can’t stop any of us)” — that has more than 700 members to document their delivery complaints.

The Memphis, Tennessee-based company that once boasted it was the service for a package that “absolutely, positively needs to be there overnight” has apologized for the delays — and blamed the troubles on the pandemic.

On Friday, FedEx said it “continues to experience a surge of package volume due to e-commerce growth during the current pandemic that has resulted in significant service delays.”

But, the company added, it is “pleased to report that local service levels are being restored through the implementation of contingency plans,” and “packages delivered by the U.S. Postal Service are part of our SmartPost service, through which FedEx Ground tenders packages to the USPS for last-mile delivery.”
