Finally, some good news for hauliers plying the Calais-Dover route. A lorry driver has won his appeal against a £10,000 fine, imposed after five stowaways were found in his truck. The vehicle had been through all the correct checks, including a heartbeat monitor that failed to pinpoint the people on board. Lorry drivers can be fined £2,000 per illegal found, and 3,319 fines were served in 2014-2015, up from 998 a year earlier.
