July 08, 2013 at 3:20 pmWhen talking to regulators one of the comments is that our industry does not have a standard process and each and every entity has it’s own SOP’s. This leads to many bi-lateral discussions. They have a difficult time in making sense of the supply chain. A group of Cargo 2000 supply chain participants including GHA’s, Airports, Forwarders, Carriers, Road Feeder Services responded to this challenge.
Recently the Shipment Master Operating Plan was updated to a much more granular level of detail. Today it covers many aspects, including E-freight events, customs and security events, etc. Although members have their own proprietary SOPs to achieve the various milestones, these MOP events are consistent in:
1) sequence of events
2) interfaces & handoff between the various supply chain participants
3) possession of goods, information & any docs at each step of the process are very clear
Cargo 2000 clearly provides a “generic” coat rack, where multiple regulator and industry programs can reference to and hang their specific “coats” on. It provides a common language which potentially could lead to global approach on topics like prior to loading submission of data. If we as industry do not support some kind of standard, we will end up with many different requirements for implementing new regulations in the next decade. ACAS, PRECISE, E-CSD, ACC3 are just some examples we face and where the MOP can help. My vote goes to the Cargo 2000 MOP! I believe it has more potential than most of the spectators comment on. These are old views at best. In any case, if you find it lacking, tell me what our MOP group needs to improve. If you have a better alternative, please let me know. All our group wants to achieve is an unified supply chain voice for our wonderful industry.
