The air cargo industry will see a major shake-up over the next year which could spell the end of various industry groups, including Cargo 2000 (C2K) and GACAG, as TIACA looks set to simplify the business. Speaking to The Loadstar at TIACA’s Executive Summit in Dallas, new chairman Oliver Evans said that the large number of industry associations, all set up in past years to solve particular issues, created complexity.

The Executive Summit and AGM have always been smaller meetings for the members of TIACA. With an actual attendance of 178 delegates this was in fact I believe the best attended ES so far and it certainly exceeded our targeted number of 150. In fact it was so busy that we had to run some workshops twice to allow everyone to participate.
So I do not share your disappointment on the numbers.
But most importantly I agree with you on the high dynamics of the discussions happening in the various workshops.

April 21, 2013 at 10:17 amAs chairman of the C2K board I am all for it to investigate the simplification of and the cooperation between the various interest groups within our industry. Given the dynamics and the scarce resources of all of us focus is important. As C2K we are in the middle of a project to redefine our purpose, value proposition, business model and organizational set up. Above discussions perfectly fit within the scope of this project. However, to set C2K aside as just being about messaging does not reflect all that we deliver to our members. A brand new MOP, fully aligned with the latest e- and security challenges, objective standards and benchmarking are only a few of the things we bring. Also in future this will require dedication and specialized knowledge, even if we would fold ourselves under a bigger umbrella like e.g. TIACA.
