The European Commission yesterday lifted its ban on the import of Indian mangoes. The ban was instigated in May last year, over concerns that shipments of the fruit, which were infested with fruit flies, could harm European salad crops. The Eu decided however that India had made sufficient improvements in plant health controls. It will take up to a month to formally lift the ban, which will be in time for India’s mango season. The UK is the biggest EU importer of Indian fruit and vegetables.
